Senator Roy Afflerbach and ACSPCA Director of Development Lisa Conklin will speak about current animal rights legislation in PA, and how you can help, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, in Bowen Auditorium at Gettysburg College.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pet Appreciation Day at Appalachian Harley-Davidson

Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will hold a low-cost vaccine and microchipping clinic for cats and dogs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Appalachian Harley-Davidson, 6695 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA.

This is a first-come, first-served clinic. Vaccines offered are rabies, distemper and bordetella (kennel cough) for $10 each. AVID micro-chipping will be available for $25, which includes registration. Nail clipping, worming and flea treatment will also be available for a donation.

All services must be paid by cash or check only. Dogs should be on a short leash (no chains please) and cats in a secure pet carrier. Thanks to Dr. George Bates, Asst. Professor at Wilson College, Chambersburg, for making this clinic possible. NO BREEDERS WILL BE SERVICED AT CPAA CLINICS.

A Pet Appreciation Day will start at 10 a.m. at the same location. Activities include agility, obedience and pet CPR demos; pet portraits by Pix of the Litter; food; and a Smooch-A-Pooch booth.

Eat at Isaac's, help YCSPCA

Want to help animals while having a nice meal?

Eat at Isaac's Restaurant and Deli from 5 to 9 p.m. March 19, and 25 percent of your total bill will benefit York County SPCA. Carryout meals will also benefit the SPCA during the same hours.

The fundraiser will take place at three locations: 235 Pauline Drive, York Township; 2159 White St., West Manchester Township; and 2960 Whiteford Road, Springettsbury Township.

CPAA meeting is March 10

The Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance will hold its general meeting 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at Isaac's Restaurant in the West Shore Plaza, Lemoyne, PA.

Amy Kaunas, executive director of the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, will be the guest speaker at the meeting and will discuss Pennsylvania's animal cruelty laws.

Individuals interested in learning more about CPAA and volunteer opportunities are invited to attend to meet representatives from CPAA member rescues and shelters. If you are interested in volunteering for any of CPAA's spay/neuter clinics, vaccination clinics, or the HOPE Program, (Hounds Of Prison Education) please be sure to attend this meeting.

Future CPAA events will be discussed, including the annual Compassion with Fashion Show.

Pet Bird Club plans open house

York Area Pet Bird Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at Adams Electric Co-op, 200 Trinity Road (Route 616), West Manchester Township.

An open house will be held 7 to 9 p.m. March 17 to give bird owners from York and surrounding areas a chance to see what the club is about and to learn more about pet birds. It will be a continuous learning environment with speakers and booth displays.

Featured topics will be avian grooming, behavioral issues, nutrition and toy making. Take-home literature will also be available.

Please note: No birds will be allowed at this event.
