USC starters to miss Rose Bowl

| | Comments (0)

These USC Trojans are loaded with talent like no other team in the country, that's for sure.

So maybe it doesn't mean much even when two key performers have been scratched for Thursday's Rose Bowl.

But Penn State fans will take the good news, no matter how it comes.

Senior safety Kevin Ellison, an All-Pac 10 performer, will not play because of a knee injury and fullback Stanley Havili has been declared academically ineligible for the game.

Ellison should be replaced by junior Will Harris, who did see plenty of playing time this fall. He recorded 32 tackles, four for loss, and made an interception.

Havili should be relieved by 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end Rhett Ellison, who started at fullback in place of an injured Havili in the regular-season finale against UCLA.
