Expect answer soon in LJ watch

It appears that that highly-anticipated decision concerning Penn State assistant coach and ace recruiter Larry Johnson will be known soon, maybe as early as today.

For the past week, Johnson has been linked to accepting a significant pay raise and at least sharing defensive coordinator duties at the University of Illinois. He interviewed there last weekend.

Joe Paterno reportedly met with Johnson on Wednesday, apparently in an effort to convince him to stay.

Johnson joined the Penn State staff 13 years ago and has been, rather quietly, one of the best recruiters and defensive line coaches in the nation this decade.

Not only would Penn State lose a top assistant, they could be in danger of losing at least a couple of their prized recruits for this class if Johnson leaves. He has his finger prints on nearly half of the Lions' class once again.
