Linebacker wins state wrestling title

More and more, it seems as if the Nittany Lions may well have a special talent on their hands in linebacker Glenn Carson.

It's one thing to have national football recruiting gurus slobbering over you, giving you a prestigious four-star rating out of five. And it's impressive, too, to have scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Stanford, Boston College and North Carolina State.

But Carson, from Southern Regional High in New Jersey, has gone above that.

He's a newly-crowned state wrestling champ, too.

He earned the 215-pound championship last weekend after finishing second in the state the previous two years. He finished his career with four district titles, three regional titles -- and a 140-12 record.

He won his semifinal match in Atlantic City in overtime before registering a 3-1 decision in the title match.

Not bad, huh?

Just winning a state title in his second-best sport.

Now he'll get ready to go to Penn State, where some extra success and toughness away from the football field figures to help him on it.
