Apparently, linebacker Navorro Bowman will not face further disciplinary action after violating his probation and then having it extended last month, according to a report by ESPN.com.
"Asked if Bowman would practice and play without any further penalties from the team, (coach Joe) Paterno nodded. Paterno brought up the fact that Bowman has struggled with the passing of his father last summer," ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg wrote from the Big Ten meetings in Chicago.
Bowman, a junior, had been on probation for a year for pleading guilty to disorderly conduct in relation to an on-campus fight. But he recently admitted to breaking his probation by smoking marijuana once in the past few months. It also was unclear how much of his community service had been completed.
A judge extended his probation by a year and also threatened him with jail time upon his next offense.
"Now he's got a probationary officer who he's got to report to," Paterno said. "I said, 'You mind your p's and q's and you're fine.
"I think he's OK. He's got to do what they tell him, but I think he's OK."
