Top running back eyes Lions

Arguably the top high school running back in the nation had some flattering words to say about Penn State recently.

Marcus Lattimore from Duncan, S.C. has nearly 30 scholarship offers -- including ones from Alabama, LSU and Georgia -- but also is being recruited hard by the Nittany Lions. Assistants Bill Kenney and Larry Johnson visited Lattimore at school on Wednesday, according to recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic of Nittany Network.

Kenney, who works the Carolinas each year for Penn State, said "how good I looked," Lattimore said in the Nittany Network report. "He said to give them a shot. I'll give them more than a shot. I'm definitely interested."

Lattimore then talked briefly about Penn State's balanced offensive attack and their tradition of producing tailbacks.

"I know (Penn State) would be a good fit," he said.

Lattimore is listed at about 6-foot and 210 pounds and averaged 7.6 yards per carry last year with 30 touchdowns as a junior. He is listed as the top running back in the nation by Scout.com and the No. 2 back in the country and No. 4 overall player by Rivals.com.

He also has scholarship offers from Big Ten teams such as Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

He said he plans on making his first trip to State College next month to attend one of Penn State's summer football camps as a spectator and that, "most likely, they will be one of my official visits" as well.
