Koroma gone for good

It appears now that defensive tackle Abe Koroma's career at Penn State is finished.

Joe Paterno first broke news of Koroma's possible season suspension for personal reasons last month at Big Ten Media Days. But over the weekend, Koroma, a junior with two years of eligibility left, posted on his Twitter account that his Penn State career is officially over.

Penn State sports information director Jeff Nelson confirmed the transfer on Monday.

Since, reports have focused on Koroma transferring to Western Illinois, a successful Football Championship Subdivision school where he can play right away.

Milton Hershey High's Koroma (6-foot-3, 317 pounds) was slated as a key backup this season. He was slowed by a broken foot in 2007 and also missed time last season for off-field problems. He made 26 tackles in 2008 with 1.5 sacks.

His absence points to more playing time for redshirt sophomores Chima Okoli and Devon Still (coming off two season-ending injuries) and Harrisburg redshirt freshman Brandon Ware, who Joe Paterno claims is still overweight at 347 pounds.
