The York County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will hold a kickoff event for the upcoming football season on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Penn State York Conference Center. The event will honor Phil Grosz, owner and publisher of BlueWhite Illustrated.
The 25th Anniversary Tailgate Party will begin at 6 p.m., with Grosz taking the stage at 7 to talk about Nittany Lion football, including the coaches, players, recruits and season outlook. The cost of the event is $15 for Alumni Association members and $25 for non-members.
In addition to food and camaraderie, the event will offer raffle drawings to raise money to fund scholarships for area students.
Participants can enter to win two tickets to each home game of the 2010 season. Another raffle will feature a chance at a football weekend RV sleepover — GOPSURV.com donated the use of an RV for the weekend of the Penn State-Youngstown game, Sept. 3-5. The vehicle, which sleeps six, will be parked at Penn State’s RV overnight lot for the enjoyment of the winners.
The menu for the tailgate party inlcudes:
- Southern-style pulled pork barbecue
- Italian sausage with peppers and onions
- Hot dogs
- Baked mac and cheese
- Potato salad
- Cole slaw
- Cookies

Hey Phil, $15 for you and sausage? Where is poopy pants?
If I don’t come to the party will he blame it on Pitt?
I’m guessing the part where Phil talks about recruits will take what… 30 seconds max? Will he spend most of that time blaming Pitt for Penn State’s terrible recruiting?
Don’t get me wrong, who wouldn’t want the chance to sleep in an RV and watch Pitt take on the might Youngstown team? Wake me up when they actually play a decent team OOC.
Why does Phil have himself done up to look like Sue Paterno?
Why does Phil have himself done up to look like Sue Paterno?
Nobody should go to this party. Phil Grosz and other members of the York County PSU Alumni Association are in poor health and there’s a good chance that they won’t even be at this party. Instead, come to the York County Pitt Alumni Association event on the same day. We’re much younger, in better overall health, and more likely actually attend the event.
The choice is yours.
Phil, will there be plenty of maple syrup to go around? Rumor has it, that you like maple syrup on everything.
