Penn State and Purdue celebrating the military on Saturday

Penn State’s meeting with the Purdue Boilermakers is being billed as “Military Appreciation Day.”

Hats and T-shirts will be sold Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium bearing the slogan, “I Am an American: We Support Our Troops.” Part of the proceeds will support the Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veteran with Disabilities program at Purdue.

Also, the Boilermakers will carry an American flag onto the field during introductions Saturday — a flag flown on a predator drone over the Horn of Africa on Sept. 11, 2012.

And before kickoff, aerial re-fueling planes (KC-135s) from Grissom Air Force Base will fly over the stadium.

American flags will replace Big Ten pennants ringing the top of the stadium and four Humvees, accompanied by personnel from the Indiana National Guard, will be available to see and sit in before and after the game.

And, of course, the Purdue marching band will play selections honoring the U.S. Armed Forces.
