Penn State recruit Jonathan Walton now eyeing other options

Penn State began recruiting Alabama linebacker Jonathan Walton before last season even began.

Then they offered him a scholarship.

Then the undervalued recruit (two stars out of five) gave a verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions.

And now he has backed away.

As PalmettoSports.com is reporting, the high school senior has de-committed from the Lions as SEC interest closer to home begins to heat up.

Walton (5-foot-11, 220 pounds) recently returned from a visit from Tennessee with a scholarship offer. South Carolina and now Auburn are also pressing.

Which could well mean the linebacker prospect, who also is a fullback option, will stay in the South.

The only other linebackers in this small recruiting class are New Jersey’s Brandon Bell and Harrisburg’s Zayd Issah.

Some recruiting analysts have commented about Walton’s significant improvement from his junior through his senior football seasons.

Big mistake Mr Walton. You have a chance to play for and receive instruction from the best LB coach in the nation! Are u crazy. Look and the players this man has put in the NFL. Not only are they outstanding players, but, men with very high character. Better think on this one. Just sayin.

Here’s the deal with Jonathan Walton. He probably would never have taken Penn State this far if others from the South would have taken interest earlier. Tough loss for Penn State, possibly, because the kid is a big-time sleeper. But you have to understand his situation. One of the few de-commits that I do.
