Of note: Allen received his first full scholarship offer Oct. 16, 2012. His coach, Elijah Brooks, handed him the phone so Penn State coach Bill O’Brien could invite him to play for the Nittany Lions. As it turned out, it was the only offer Allen was hoping for. He immediately accepted and became the first member of Penn State’s 2014 recruiting class. … He reportedly had interest from such teams as West Virginia, Maryland and Wake Forest. … He only played the first seven games of his junior season before tearing his ACL, which he has since had repaired. Despite the short season, he racked up 682 yards rushing and four touchdowns total and eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in three games.

In their words …
“He decided to attend their summer camp. He performed well. I think he felt this was the place he wanted to be if Penn State wanted him.” — DeMatha Catholic High School coach Elijah Brooks

“(Mark) really wanted Penn State all along. He was hoping this day would come for a long time. He couldn’t be happier.” — Brooks
