Don't tweet at public meetings

The board that oversees public transportation in the  San Francisco Bay Area has drawn up rules that prohibit twittering, blogging or using cell phones at meetings.

Why, you ask, would a board prohibit seemingly innocuous tweets? Click on the jump for the story.

Some background: The board came under fire after an unarmed man was shot dead by transit police -- a perfectly reasonable thing discuss and debate. But things went downhill after a protester threw red paint during the board meeting.

Keeping with the tradition of (over)reacting to these kinds of things, the board did the totally (un)reasonable thing of banning tweets and a whole slew of things, including booing and clapping during meetings.

I mean, because why should peasants taxpayers have a right to boo and clap at the Kings and Queens that rule over us public servants?
