Freedom of Information Day Conference taking registrations

You can register now to attend the 13th annual National Freedom of Information Day Conference, scheduled for March 16 in Washington, D.C.

Open records advocates, government officials, judges, lawyers, librarians, journalists, educators and others gather each year to discuss issues related to transparency in government and public access, according to a news release from the First Amendment Center, which sponsors the event.

The American Library Association will announce the winner of its James Madison Award, given to a person or group that has “championed, protected and promoted public access to government information and the public’s right to know.”

The conference, at the Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Ave.) is free but space is limited. To register, e-mail or call Ashlie Hampton of the First Amendment Center at ahampton at freedomforum.org, or 202-292-6288.
