Reader raises question about Sovereign Bank Stadium

York resident Brian Bailey writes in with this letter on an issue he sees at Sovereign Bank Stadium:

I recently attended a Revolution baseball game on a Sunday afternoon and had a relatively pleasant experience, but I was very concerned with a safety issue that didn't seem to be of importance to anyone else. The designer of Sovereign Bank Stadium did a great job, except for one glaring item. There isn't any protective netting in the outfield recreation area where the children play. This to me is inexcuseable!

Also, why would you put this area in the power alley of the stadium? I saw two balls hit to this area during the game I attended and one of the balls, had it hit someone, would have seriously injured them. The other was over the top of the merry-go-round, but could have easily struck someone.

Why, when the "sky-boxes” weren't ready and left un-opened, would you open the recreation area when it obviously isn't safe? Are we waiting for someone to get hurt before we address this or is the city just overlooking this, just like they overlooked all of the other safety issues?

The all-mighty dollar and Mayor Brenner's desire to be the hero seem to outweigh the common sense that should accompany a great idea for York. I truly hope no innocent children or adults are injured, because the ramifications could be devastating!

The safety netting has been up since last homestand. Its hard to see unless you are actually close to the playground area. FYI. Thanks.
