Trade still in effect ... sort of

The York Revolution have sent LHP Matt Ford to the Bridgeport Bluefish as expected, but will not immediately receive a player in return.

Catcher Sandy Aracena is expected to join the Revs, but only after Bridgeport can find a catcher to replace him.

The weird halfway trade is a side effect of an ugly bench-clearing brawl involving Long Island Ducks infielder Jose Offerman. After being hit by a pitch in the second inning, Offerman charged the mound Tuesday night swinging a bat at Bridgeport pitcher Matt Beech.

Offerman hit Beech and catcher John Nathans with the bat. Beech injured his hands but could return to the lineup, whereas Nathans reportedly suffered a concussion and is expected to miss time. Aracena will remain with Bridgeport until the Bluefish can obtain a catcher to replace Nathans. Revs/Fish director of baseball operations Adam Gladstone said the mutual agreement was reached between Bridgeport manager Tommy John, York manager Chris Hoiles and the league.

Gladstone said the league did not want to leave Bridgeport with one catcher because of circumstances out of its control. York is down to one catcher because Greg Brown retired following Tuesday's game.

Gladstone said he hopes to have the deal complete by Wednesday or Thursday.
