Gil fighting through injury

| | Comments (0)

York starter Dave Gil left in the third inning of the Revolution's 8-5 victory against Southern Maryland, suffering from bicep tendinitis.

Gil has been battling the injury for weeks, but hopes to remain on the active roster because he wants to pitch York into the playoffs.

The injury comes at a difficult time for the Revolution.

Headed into a pivotal three-game series with Somerset, York will not be able to start righty Aaron Rakers. Rakers experienced a sore arm after throwing a complete-game victory against Newark earlier in the month. He made his first appearance since the complete game on Thursday night, but did not look sharp. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed two runs on three hits.

And while Gil maintains he is day-to-day, he did mention that missing one start may help his arm.

York manager Chris Hoiles said the Revolution will start Dan Foli Friday, Wayne Franklin Saturday, and Rolando Viera Sunday.
