Former Atlantic League pitcher/critic Joe Borowski (pictured above) told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he has retired. Here's a take on his retirement from a hometown paper in New Jersey.

Borowski pitched for the Newark Bears in 2000. After returning to the majors, Borowski was a vocal critic of the Atlantic League and its low pay. He managed to make it back to the majors -- and earn a pay raise -- when he jumped to the Mexican League.

* The Lancaster Barnstormers lost one of the franchise's best players as infielder Danny Gonzalez has signed with Telemarket Rimini in Italy. Former 'Stormer infielder Ivanon Coffie has also signed with Rimini.

The release can be found here.

Gonzalez had been with Lancaster since 2005.

MORE ON DRYER RETIREMENT

"Matt made such an impression with the fans, because he was so approachable. He would talk to fans, and he had no problem starting a conversation with someone sitting in the stands. That was just his personality."

-- Revolution General Manager Matt O'Brien

"Matt was one of the first players I ever signed when I worked in Somerset (in 2003). All he ever wanted to do was play baseball. That showed in his dedication to the game, and it showed in the way the fans in York bonded with him. I'm sorry to see him go, but I'm happy he was able to (retire) on his terms."

-- Revolution Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone

From his own mouth: "I'm notorious for pimpin' balls that hit the wall."

-- Dryer on his celebratory flip of the bat after smashing a ball ... that just didn't have enough to get out of Sovereign Bank Stadium. The ball hit the top of the right field wall and bounced back into play. Dryer still won the game, knocking in the tying and eventual game-winning runs Aug. 12 against Southern Maryland, but he couldn't help poking fun at his mistake.

Some other highlights:

* One of the original Revolution at York's first spring practice in 2007.

* One of the franchise's first All-Stars, invited to the Atlantic League All-Star Game in 2007. He could not play because of an injury.

* Knocked in the first run in Sovereign Bank Stadium history on a single, June 15, 2007.

* Clubbed first grand slam in franchise history, May 6, 2007 in 12-7 loss at Bridgeport.

* Combined to hit 35 homers in two seasons in York, and he homered for his last hit -- slugging an opposite field shot at Sovereign Bank Stadium Sept. 19, 2008.
