Henry's call

| | Comments (2)

One of my first thoughts after watching Revs' first baseman P.J. Rose hit a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth in Saturday's miraculous 7-6 win over Bridgeport was that York play-by-play announcer Darrell Henry had to be going crazy.

So after writing my story for the Daily Record/Sunday News, I asked Darrell to play his on-air call for me.

While there was no way a hometown broadcaster could contain his excitement, Darrell did a pretty good job on the call of what might have been the most dramatic home run in team history.

I wanted to post the call here on the Revs Inside Pitch so York fans could listen to it, which anyone at the game will want to do.

So here it is, Darrell's call of Rose's walk-off grand slam.

Amazing stat on the slam: A walk-off grand slam has happened only 23 times in major league history when a team trailed by three runs.

One of those 23 coming May 17, 1996 when Chris Hoiles himself gave the O's a 14-13 victory by homering on a 3-2 offering from Seattle's Norm Charlton. Coming with two outs, Hoiles' blast is considered an "Ultimate Grand Slam."

Great comment by Rev Runs. Darrell and I talked about that very home run by Hoiles after Rose's blast on Saturday.
