Rose, Britton released

York manager Andy Etchebarren released former major leaguers P.J. Rose and Chris Britton Monday.

Still bothered by the move, hours later, Etchebarren refused to comment about the specifics surrounding the moves.

"Today was a tough day with the moves we made," Etchebarren said. "That's between the players and I, and that's something I don't want to get into."

Etchebarren said he had no plans to release the players, but something happened during Sunday's doubleheader.

"Something happened yesterday and let's leave it at that," Etchebarren said.

Rose, the son of major league hits leader Pete Rose, had been signed by former manager Chris Hoiles. Longtime friends, Hoiles brought Rose back to the Atlantic League because he wanted to help solidify the No. 3 spot in the Revs lineup. Rose, who no longer runs well after 21 seasons in pro baseball, had said he believed this was his last year as a player. He batted .279 with three homers and 11 doubles in 62 games.

Britton, a right-handed reliever, pitched in the majors with the Yankees last season. He went 2-4 with three saves and a 4.12 ERA.
