Press release: The York Revolution, member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, released their schedule today for the 2010 season. As in 2009, the Atlantic League will play 140 games, and 70 home games are slated for Sovereign Bank Stadium in downtown York. All home game times for the Revolution will be reviewed and released at a later date. The final 2010 regular season includes just five Monday home games and 11 weekend series. The longest homestand is eight games. The shortest is just two.
For the first time ever, the Revolution will open the season in York, with a four-game homestand against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs beginning on Thursday, April 22nd. Opening Day will also mark the first time in 2010 that Revolution Manager Andy Etchebarren faces off against his former team, managed by Butch Hobson. Etchebarren, or "Etch", will also end the 2010 regular season battling Butch as York travels to Southern Maryland on September 16-19.
The Revolution's first road trip will be April 30-May 2, as they travel to Lancaster and open the Lancaster Barnstormers' 2010 season at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The 2009 Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots will travel to York for the first time on Tuesday, May 4-6. York Revolution fans can watch their team take on the Barnstormers at Sovereign Bank Stadium for the first time during the 2010 season on Friday, May 28th for a three-game homestand.
Another first for York this year will be a 4th of July home game. In past seasons, the Revolution has hosted an Independence Day Celebration during the home game closest to the fourth, but has never played a game at Sovereign Bank Stadium on this National Holiday until this season.
For the first time in its twelve-year existence, the Atlantic League has scheduled two-game series' with four of the eight teams. The Revolution will host Somerset for two games on Wednesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 3. The second two-game series against the Patriots will be held on Monday, Aug. 9 and Tuesday, Aug. 10.
The Revolution plans on releasing their much anticipated promotional schedule, one event at a time for 70 straight days, beginning in December. Fans can expect to see Sovereign Bank Stadium's most popular attractions, along with some added new surprises.
With the Revolution home game schedule complete, the non-baseball schedule can now start falling into place. Among the non-game events waiting on dates to be scheduled are three high school baseball games, one college baseball tournament, one fantasy camp, four festivals, four area championship games, two All-Star games, professional boxing, two road races, one charity walk, a concert, a 13U youth tournament and potentially one graduation ceremony.
