It’s the first scrimmage, so a victory Wednesday means about as much as a batting practice home run.
But here are the highlights:
York Revs 10, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4
Homers — Southern Maryland: Cyle Hankerd; York: Brian Burgamy, Jason Repko, Eric Patterson.
Shutout innings — York: Joe Torres (one hit, one strikeout); Stephen Penney (one hit, two strikeouts); Yunior Novoa (two hits, one walk, one strikeout); Michael Wuertz (one walk — and I believe it was a full-count — and three strikeouts).
Notables: York’s Chris Cody went three innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out two batters. He retired the last six batters he faced in order. … Nick Schumacher allowed one run (Hankerd’s homer) on two hits. He walked one and struck out one. … Andy Marte made a diving stop in the second to knock down a grounder. He also committed an error, but showed flashes of the glove play that helped him play parts of six seasons in the majors. … Wuertz still has a filthy slider, ranked the best swing-and-miss pitch in the majors in 2009 through Wall Street Journal analysis. His slider bounced in the dirt, but he kept fooling hitters. He struck out the side after issuing a leadoff walk to Brian Barton in a real battle to start the ninth. … Tyler Graham hit a pair of doubles. … Repko homered and doubled. … Burgamy went Beast Mode in his first game of spring, hitting a homer over the picnic deck and onto the top of the Revs clubhouse in right field. … York Revs manager Mark Mason instructed players not to steal bases in the first game.
York travels to Somerset for a scrimmage Thursday.
