Food in China

We finally went out for dinner the night before last. We went to a French restaurant in Beijing called Brasserie Flo. Little Gary was going to stay and take care of Shawna while Gary and I went out to the restaurant with a group of people, but he ended up being able to go with us too. Christina and her cousin's girlfriend, Yen, showed up to see Shawna Saturday evening and Christina very graciously offered to stay and take care of Shawna so that we could all go out together. Christina is the kindest, most caring person anyone could ever want to meet. We just love her! Anyway, we were definitely in heaven at the restaurant ... real food!

We started out at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital. There was Norman and Marlene (from Florida); Dan, Jeff, Kelly and Heather (from Utah); Steve (formerly from the UK, now residing in Florida); Elsa (from Argentina); Ty and Rene (from California); Susan (from California); and Gary, Gary and me.

We all climbed into 2 vans that were hired for the evening (complete with drivers). Upon arrival at Brasserie Flo Restaurant, we were faced with stairs ... a lot of stairs and we had two people in wheelchairs. As we stood there looking up the stairs, wondering how we would manage, six waiters came running down and picked Dan up in his wheelchair and proceeded to carry him to the top. They returned to take Norman up in the same manner, but his was a scooter and he could manage climbing the stairs with assistance. They carried the scooter to the top. Could you imagine waiters in the U.S. running to carry someone in a wheelchair up a flight of steps? I can't! Beijing and it's people is truly amazing. I'm in awe of everyone and everything here.

The food was absolutely divine, the company wonderful, and the service outstanding! What an evening!

When we got back to the hospital, we chatted with Christina and Yen for a bit. When they finally said they had to get going, I offered Christina money for her taxi fare at least ... she refused. Christina says it gives her much pleasure to be at our service; we are truly blessed to have her in our lives now.

Well, it's time to run now; have to take Shawna to OT.

While it is wonderful that you and Gary are learning to use Chopsticks and adjusting to Chinese culture, and equally as facinating that "Little Gary" aka (the puking puppy) is out getting loaded with his peers, however how about a little update on the reason for the trip....Shawna? Any progress, any chance she may be able to enjoy some of the chinese culture? Sorry I may sound a little harsh, but this is a bit much!!
