With the beautiful weather we’ve had all week, I’ve gotten a tad jealous of my coworkers who go home to outdoor space and big porches. All I have is a fire escape in my downtown apartment.
But never fear — I got creative. Monday night I pulled a chair over to an open window in my kitchen and pretended I was outside. Sitting next to my oven isn’t quite the same as a porch, though.
This week on the Smart magazine Facebook page, Jess Krout asked who was enjoying (or not enjoying) their own front porch.

Cassady Krinock: WE have one and I’m out there pretty much every day, the sun sets directly out front and it’s gorgeous! Love it!
Stephanie Kitting-Bates: I especially like sitting out on the porch in the early mornings with a cup of coffee… listening to the birds… and thinking about what’s in store for the day.
Alexandra Knaub: I have a front and back porch and I love that I have them but I am not fond of the neighborhood nor the view, so I rarely use them.
Angela Bond: I love our front porch! My daughter, our dogs, and I pretty much spend all spring, summer, fall on it!

Terry Zellers: Love my porch and my view. Our front porch of our log home pretty much looks like Cracker Barrel with all the summer crocks and old wooden Stauffer boxes my wife puts on the porch. Just us and the horses next door. The sounds of summer are back and much welcomed.
Smart magazine: I’m so relaxed just from reading your comments! Glad to know there are still many of you with porches who use them. I think my porch view is nice with a park and the rail trail, but horses have me beat. It must be wonderful to wake up and have them next door. — Jess

Everyone deserves an outdoor space to enjoy their coffee in the morning or maybe a drink at the end of the day. We actually have a front porch and a screened porch in the back. The screen porch gets much more attention. The best outdoor patio for me is one that offers beautiful views and shade to keep me out of the sun.
