Makeup review: Revlon’s Colorstay Whipped foundation

Revlon Colorstay Whipped

I’m obsessed with foundations. Even after I find one I really like, that doesn’t stop me from trying new ones.

My most recent purchase is Revlon’s Colorstay Whipped Foundation.

I purchased it at Wal-Mart at $10.99. It was the cheapest I saw it for without a sale or coupon. Most of the time I only buy my makeup with a coupon or wait for it to go on sale. But I felt it was a pretty good bargain despite it not being on sale.

The foundation comes in a glass jar with screw-top lid.

When I opened the jar there was a removable plastic insert. When I lifted the insert off, there was a ton of foundation sticking to it.

I put the lid in a plastic container, so I could use the foundation instead of throwing the it out and wasting all that foundation sticking to it.

Open jar of Revlon Colorstay, lid insert sitting in plastic container.

I’m very familiar with the Colorstay line of Revlon in its liquid foundation, but wanted to see how their new whipped version stacked up.

Here’s what Revlon’s website says:
Finally, truly decadent makeup offers ultimate performance. The mousse-like texture feels like silk on your skin. And, the time release formula balances skin for a flawless look. All day flexible wear without flaking, caking or feeling heavy.
- Buildable to full coverage for flawless skin
- Soft, matte finish all day long
- Withstands heat and humidity – great for summer
- Comes in 16 beautiful shades

Here’s my take:
I didn’t like how messy the foundation was inside the container — all the foundation on the insert was kinda of a turn off.

I used a makeup sponge to apply the foundation. It does have very nice coverage and blendability. It blends easier than the liquid version in the Colorstay line. The liquid version must be blended pretty fast, because it sets up instantly.

Make sure to apply the foundation lightly and build up your coverage, so you look natural without looking like you’re wearing a mask.

I would argue their claim about it staying as a matte finish all day long is a bit of a stretch, because my nose/T-zone area did become oily later in the day.

The foundation comes in 16 shades. The shades are very good and neutral not too pink or ashy.

In general, I was pleased with this foundation.

If you have dry skin, you might not want to use this foundation, because it will magnify your dry patches.

Here is photo of me at 4 p.m.after applying the foundation at 9 a.m.

Notice, I have some slight oiliness on forehead and nose area. But otherwise the foundation stays in place without creasing. I have not done any makeup re-touchups since applying this foundation.

A similar type of foundation that I blogged about in a previous post was L’Oreal’s Magic Smooth Souffle foundation

Thanks for the review! how do you think it compares to the liquid version? Is the liquid version better at controlling oil and lasts longer?
    Thank you!
