I recently stumbled upon this post by Planet Green on how being lazy can actually make a positive impact on the environment.
Well, what a wake-up call! I was told growing up that being lazy was not an option, but how can Mom and Dad deny me now, when I would be saving the planet?
Realistically, I can’t be lazy; it is not in my nature. However, slowing down and relaxing for a few hours at home with a good book is a much better option for the green life (and my budget!) than driving around in search of something to do.
Whereas the Planet Green post — and mine, too — is a bit tongue-in-cheek, it is still true.
When I eat a hodgepodge of leftovers instead of cooking a full meal, going to the grocery store or out to a restaurant, I am saving on energy, water and trash. When I decide to open the windows, let the breeze in and use the sun as my light source, I am saving energy.
And what about those rotting vegetables in the refrigerator? Well, they would make a great compost!
I also wait to do laundry, mostly out of laziness and my hatred of dragging the baskets up and down from my car, as I need a laundromat to do the washing. This saves on resources, as I wait for a full load and make one trip instead of multiple every few weeks.
And those dust bunnies won’t kill me, so a little extra dust saves on the electricity I need to vacuum.
My mother is probably horrified by my lack of domestic cleanliness, but I am saving the environment, one lazy moment at a time.
