Grab a bike: It’s in style!

When I spent $300 on a bicycle in May, it wasn’t because everyone was doing it or it was a cool way to commute; I needed the exercise and York has an awesome rail trail. And well, I was trying to prove I was invincible.

Well, I’m glad to hear that bicycling is back in fashion. For the past few months, Vogue has been featuring “practical” clothing for bicycling, some awesome (and some expensive) bike accessories, and for the fall, the perfect bike for your style personality.

Of course there is the over-the-top Chanel bike, but most are priced around what local bike shops are selling. The clothing might not fit into your budget, though, and might not be totally practical. At least Vogue is showing how cool it is to ride a bike, even with 6-inch stilettos.

With the weather hopefully cooling down soon, it’s a good time to invest in a bike for the rail trail or for a work commute. Riding a bike gives you a double eco thumbs-up: Not using gas but green energy to travel AND getting in exercise to be healthy. Start your bikini-season prep now!

Visit York County bike shops to get your digs, check out the Flipside calendar for local bike meet-ups and come to York’s First Friday for the Critical Mass bike ride at 6 p.m.
