Beth Fives, 37, of Springettsbury Township was looking for a way to use the box of seconds peaches she bought at Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market in Springfield Township. She found a Peach Butter recipe that she could make in a slow cooker.
“It was so easy and so tasty that I made a second batch,” she said.
Her mother-in-law, Sara Fives, helped her can it to use throughout the year.
Peach Butter
Fill a 3-quart slow cooker with about 5 to 6 pounds of chopped, peeled peaches. Add 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/4 teaspoon allspice and 1 3/4 cup sugar. Stir the mixture, and cover it with a vented lid, such as splatter screen, to allow the steam to escape. Cook on low over night or for about 6 to 10 hours. Puree with a hand blender. Turn slow cooker to high heat, and cook until desired thickness, for about 1 to 3 more hours, stirring occasionally.
