York College to show ‘Bag It!’ on impact of plastic bags

Opening the cabinet under my sink is always a gamble. Will I be safe from the mountain of plastic bags hiding among my cleaning supplies? Or will they tumble out, desperate to escape their home?

Really, they shouldn’t be there at all — I have a handful of reusable bags and try to bring them with me to Central Market and the grocery store. But I also have a habit of forgetting sometimes… and the plastic bags pile up quickly.

If that sounds like you, too, check out a screening of “Bag It!”, a documentary that focuses on America’s “cultural love affair with plastics,” hosted by York College’s Sustainability and Environmental Studies minor. (Watch the trailer above.) The film will be followed by a discussion.

The event, co-sponsored by Schmidt Library, will be 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in room 218 of the Humanities building. York College is located at 441 Country Club Road, Spring Garden Township. For details, visit the SES minor’s page on Facebook.
