Holiday countdown: What’s open this week?

Smart Holiday Countdown logoBe honest — with visiting relatives and kids home from school, the holiday joy only lasts so long. But what’s still going on this week in southcentral Pennsylvania? Here’s a look at a few options:

  • Catch holiday light displays
Gift of Lights at Elizabeth Farms in Lititz is open through Jan. 1, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tickets are $20 per car; for details, call 717-626-8733 or visit elizabethfarms.com/gift-of-lights. Hersheypark Christmas Candylane is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but reopens Dec. 26. Call 800-437-7439 or visit christmasinhershey.com for details. And right here in York County, Christmas Magic will close for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but reopens Dec. 26. Call 717-840-7740 or visit yorkcountyparks.org for details.

  • Explore the Whitaker Center
The Student Art-Science Christmas Tree Display at the Whitaker Center, showcasing up to 12 Christmas trees, each beautifully decorated with ornaments created by students from one school. The Whitaker Center is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but reopens Dec. 26. The exhibit runs through Jan. 1 For details, contact Mary Beth Fisher at mfisher@whitakercenter.org.
  • Cumberland County Historical Society Civil War Christmas
Did you know that traditions of modern Christmas, including presents, caroling, trees and even Santa Claus, were affected by the 1860s? The historical society is closed Dec. 24-26, but reopens Dec. 27. The exhibit runs through Jan. 5. For details, visit historicalsociety.com or call 717-249-7610.
