I stood in front of the mirror, knees together, to see how much of a gap I had. Turned out, not any.
If you’re not familiar with the term, thigh gap is a small, hollow cavity that’s formed when you stand straight with your knees together.
But, and here’s the catch, you’ve got to have thighs the size of a sausage.
Unfortunately, it’s all the rage with teen girls who aren’t above starving themselves to get the gap. Ridiculous, I know. But when they’re bombarded with images of girls showing their coveted gaps it’s hard for them not to want that, too. And, they don’t understand how unhealthy it is — or how dangerous it can be.
That’s where we as parents come in. We should talk to them about having a healthy body image and make sure they understand the ramifications of not eating for the sake of thin thighs.
Some folks have started an anti-thigh worship movement, trying to reach thin-thigh worshippers. Kudos to them for promoting realistic body images that don’t leave young girls feeling like they’re elephants.
As I stood in front of the mirror, I tried creating a gap by pushing back my thigh fat. Even then, it couldn’t be done.
Then I looked at the belly fat that’s been accumulating faster than my money in the bank. That wasn’t pretty either.
It’s not easy getting older. But hey, I’m alive and healthy and loving life. That’s gotta count for something!
