Make a fun travel tray
By TRACEY CULLEN
For Smart
Keep the kids busy on long car trips with this handy travel tray. Made with an old cookie sheet, it has a lip to prevent things from sliding off, and it’s metal, so it’s great for all things magnetic! (And the list of things you can do with magnets is endless!) With the addition of some shelf liner, it also becomes a wipe-off drawing board.
Supplies
• Cookie sheet
• White shelf liner or contact paper
• String or ribbon
• A piece of fabric (an old washcloth works well)
• Buttons or foam shapes
• Washable markers
• Magnetic tape and/or printable magnetic inkjet paper
How to make it
Cut a piece of shelf liner the size of the inside of the cookie sheet. Then, carefully peel the backing off and stick it to the metal, smoothing out any bubbles.
Tie the washcloth to the cookie sheet with the ribbon or string through one of the holes.
Attach magnets to the markers, and stick them on.
Attach magnets to the buttons or foam shapes.
With the magnetic inkjet paper, you can print out pictures from your computer right onto the paper and cut them out. Or you can have your child draw right onto the paper, and cut the drawings out.
Print out our face template to use for your project!
Tip
Before you head out on your trip, moisten the cloth with water so it’s easier to wipe off the markers.
