Japanese beetles - On the munch!
Japanese beetle adults are out feeding on various woody and perennial ornamental plants. Adult feeding (skeletonization) can be severe. A number of insecticides are labeled for use against these voracious insects. However, these materials are non-selective and may have a detrimental effect on non-target beneficial insects. You may want to try a formulation of azadirachtin (neem oil) as a feeding deterrent. This insecticide is not going to lead to lots of dead beetles falling off of plants, but will reduce the amount of plant damage. This practice will probably require an application every week because the azadirachtin is not long lasting and is susceptible to sunlight degredation. However, for a diligent gardener, this might just do the trick.
