Let your makeup loose this summer

Summer's here, and that means boardwalk strolls at the beach and backyard barbecues in sundresses with flip-flops and tousled hair.
The good news is it takes little effort to look sun-kissed and cute for summer's many social functions. Bright days with high humidity don't call for slathered-on makeup.
"You don't want to spend two hours applying a gorgeous face to walk out in the sun and have it fall off," professional makeup artist Lauren Gunarich said.
Summer makeup is light, fresh and easy to apply, making you look bright and airy.
While the sun can be your skin's enemy, it can also be used to your advantage. Gunarich, who is co-owner of Dandy Looks at the West Mancheter Mall, said getting a light color in the summer evens out the skin.
“You don’t need as much concealer,” Gunarich said.
Also, if you apply a bronzer to your cheeks, chin, forehead and bridge of the nose, the sun will hit those spots to give your face a natural glow.
Gunarich said to look for products that are waterproof and oil free and that have an SPF of 15 or more. She likes to start off with an anti-shine gel or light sunscreen so the skin won’t get too oily in the heat. Gunarich also said she avoids powder because it will break up when it comes into the light.
Blended eyeliner, bronze shadows and a light lip gloss will take you a long way to looking fresh.
Gunarich always uses black mascara because it makes the eye “pop.”
As for colors, Gunarich doesn’t like to limit herself to using warm colors — yellows, oranges, browns, yellowish greens, orangish reds — or cool colors — blues, greens, pinks, purples, blue-greens, magentas and blue-based reds. Although most people’s skin tends to be warmer in the summer, a little bit of a cool color usually works.
“I think if it works, it works,” Gunarich said.
She prefers to use bronze bases for eye shadow and add a pop of color with the eyeliner. As long as you keep it minimal, you’re probably making a wise decision.
Heavy lipsticks and liners aren’t necessary. A subtle lip gloss will add sparkle and shine to your lips.
“Keep it light and fresh,” Gunarich said.
