Whip up a homemade facial

Who says you need to spend a day at the spa to get healthy skin? Here are some quick, simple recipes for face masks that will help condition your skin.

Before applying the mask, make sure your face is clean. Marian Hoffman, author of “Grandmother’s Remedies,” advises using a steam bath for a deep clean.

Boil 8 cups of water in a pan for 5 minutes, then pour the water into a large bowl. Lean your head over the bowl and cover with a large towel for 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure to close your pores by splashing cold water on your face afterward.

Oily skin

Blend ¼ of a small, unpeeled eggplant and 1 cup of plain yogurt in a food processor. Apply mixture to face and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water then splash face with cool water.

Dry skin

Puree one ripe avocado. Mix with an equal amount of sour cream. Apply mixture to face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Combination skin

Peel a ripe papaya and puree. Pat on face and neck and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
