Anniversary gifts from the heart

A couple’s wedding anniversary is a day meant to celebrate their commitment and to honor the love that they have for one another. And while sharing memories of their time together is important, finding a unique gift to commemorate the couple’s union can make the day that much more meaningful and memorable.

While there are traditional gifts for different anniversaries — wood for the fifth year, crystal for the 15th — to find the perfect, unique gift, you might try considering the pastimes and activities that are important to the couple.

“Nowadays, the best gifts tend to be more specific to the couple’s interests,“ said Susie Bowser, manager of Things Remembered at the York Galleria. Whether it’s home décor, outdoor living, sports and fitness or even home entertainment, when you incorporate the couple’s personality into the gift, Bowser said, it’s sure to be a big hit.

And if after considering all the couple’s interests you’re still having trouble deciding on a gift, try using the list of modern and traditional gift ideas for inspiration. Since the list lends itself to interpretation, Bowser suggests meshing the items from that list with the personality of the couple.

In the end, Bowser said, choosing the perfect gift comes down to “the thought and the love that the gift sends. That’s what will set it apart of any others.”

Smart gifts

For the couple that's all about rest and relaxation
A set of shiatsu massaging pillows or massaging pillows with heat would be a great choice. They might also enjoy gift certificates for a day at the spa. No matter what their activities or age, personal items designed to rejuvenate the body are great anniversary gifts.

For the tech-savvy couple

Try a digital frame. There innovative frames allow you to show one picture or create a slideshow of various photos. Simply load the media card from your digital camera and the frame stores the pictures, ready for viewing.

For adventure-seeking duos

This couple might enjoy outdoor adventure gift certificates. The certificates, available at giftybox.com, let couples choose from more than 80 activities nationwide. Adventures range from llama riding in Indiana to paragliding in California. If you don't feel comfortable planning a vacation for the couple, try buying them a GPS system to keep them on track on all their excursions.
