It suits you

Here are 10 things you need to know about swimwear this summer season.
1. One-pieces are back, especially with plunging silhouettes.
2. Cover-ups and accessories are essential. "We're doing a lot of dress cover-ups," said Gina Powell, a swimwear buyer for Dillard's. "Everything is not so matchy-matchy now."
3. Retro '70s stylings are grooving back into fashion. Dig the paisley prints, bohemian florals, bandeau tops and triangle tops worn with boy-cut or side-tie bottoms.
4. Lingerie-inspired effects are far more subtle this
summer season, with just a faint hint of the boudoir showing up in lace borders, scalloped edges, frilly ruffles or mini florals.
5. The hot hues are vibrant candy-colored brights, especially yellows, oranges and reds. And deep greens, Powell said. "It's more of an emerald with lots of blue in it - a very strong seller." Also look for safari greens and graphic black-and-white combinations in every department, from misses to juniors to contemporary.
6. Metallics are the new pirate booty; either be a silver shiny surfer or a gold doubloon diva.
7. High-waisted or boy-cut bottoms can help give suits that retro '40s pinup feel.
8. For the guys, two choices: the modest surfer jam or the more daring square-cut trunk, a la Daniel Craig as James Bond.
9. If you have a larger bust, you need to get a D cup that has either netted underwires or special construction, such as a rubber support bra, built in. Swimwear fabric, by definition, is extremely stretchy and alone will not give you the support you need.
10. Know what suits your shape. If you are pear-shaped, avoid spaghetti straps. You don't want anything delicate on top. Go for a thicker, more athletic strap to balance out the wider lower half. If you are rectangle-shaped, then "ruching in the center creates a waistline," said Lisa Dixon, senior designer for Jantzen swimwear. "And if you have an athletic frame, then those old-fashioned princess seams, which look a little like corset seams, will give you more curve. It's all about balance."
