Do your cups runneth over?

bra.jpgHow to shop for a bra . . . and other things nobody told you about this all-important undergarment

By JENNIFER VOGELSONG
For Smart

Bethany Westover never had a problem buying bras. She could always count on finding a few cute, cheap ones almost anywhere she shopped.

Then, in August 2006, the 26-year-old Red Lion woman had a baby, and everything changed.

Her old bras started to feel tight.

She bought a sports bra, but that didn't fit right either.

So she bought a different bra.

Then another.

And another.

Finally, Westover broke down and spent nearly $40 on a Victoria's Secret number. "That really hurt," she said. "I'm a waitress and that's half a day's tips sometimes."

irish coffee.jpg

By Peter M. Gianotti
Newsday

Irish whiskey, the leprechaun of top-shelf spirits, is making mischief.

Quality, variety and sales are up, as the fuel for Irish coffee, countless hot toddies and a very fine highball has turned neat for many drinkers.

“More and more people have developed a taste for it,” said Michael Douglass, president of Post Wines & Spirits in Syosset, N.Y., where 15 types of Irish whiskey are sold. “And it’s a little different taste.”

How to spring forward without falling back into bed

MEGAN K. SCOTT
Associated Press Writer

Sure, we’re springing forward. But we’re losing an hour of sleep.

This weekend, most Americans will set their clocks one hour ahead for daylight saving time, which falls on the second Sunday in March. And while an hour may not seem like a huge deal, 32 percent of those surveyed in the National Sleep Foundation’s 2008 Sleep in America poll said they only get a good night’s sleep a few nights per month.

Losing one hour can lead to crankiness, slower thinking and reaction time. The key is taking a few minutes now -- not Saturday before bedtime -- to set the stage.

Mommy time

By JENNIFER VOGELSONG for Smart

Coury Gudeman figures she gets about 37 seconds of free time a day.

The 27-year-old stay-at-home mother of two is joking, of course. But she’s serious when she says it’s difficult for moms to find time for themselves.

“There’s always something,” the Stewartstown woman said. “A PTA meeting, someone sick with a stomach bug... There always seems to be another fire popping up.”

Let your makeup loose this summer

By NICKI LEFEVER

Summer's here, and that means boardwalk strolls at the beach and backyard barbecues in sundresses with flip-flops and tousled hair.

The good news is it takes little effort to look sun-kissed and cute for summer's many social functions. Bright days with high humidity don't call for slathered-on makeup.
