One of the most popular players here at The Southpaw is current San Diego Padres second baseman David Eckstein makes a catch against the Cleveland Indians in the third inning of a Spring Training game Monday.
Spring Training is almost over. It's a bittersweet feeling, kind of like riding the school bus for the last time. You're moving on to better things, but you had a lot of fun while it lasted.

We all knew it was coming. Cole Hamels will not pitch on Opening Day. The Phillies trimmed their roster and have just a few more moves to go before the roster is complete.

News from the other region's teams is also interesting.

  • Alfredo Simon is trying to secure the final spot in the Orioles rotation. Luke Scott likes his new swing.
  • The Nationals have the young rotation they've been looking for. The Washington Post reports Mike Rizzo has brought a professional approach to the Nats.
  • Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter Rob Biertempfel writes about the surprising Zach Duke.

Now for a quick look at other teams.

  • The Angels in the outfield are imported, writes the Los Angeles Times
  • Livan is the Mets' fifth starter.
  • The Globe and Mail ponders "What if' about the Blue Jays and realizes Lyle Overbay is the key.
  • The Braves and Tigers make a swap. Remember when that happened and Atlanta got John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander? Thought so.
  • Andruw Jones has not won the last spot on the Texas Rangers' roster. Yet.
