Here are the 10 best baseball songs.

  • No. 10 Catfish

Bob Dylan's Catfish Hunter psalm is straight out of South Carolina.

  • No. 9 Talking Softball

Well, we really wanted Terry Cashman's "Talking baseball." But we couldn't find it on YouTube, so we settled for this Simpsons' spoof. Search around YouTube and you'll find one for your favorite team. Unless you root for Shelbyville.

  • No. 8 Hells Bells and We Are the Champions

Neither song was written to be a baseball song. But they fit certain moment so perfectly, you can't deny they belong in a ballpark. Hells Bells should be the entrance song for each league's most dominant closer. Let the batters pick. This year it would be Pappelbon and Lidge. And no championship is complete until Queen blares over the loudspeaker. These songs basically represent your stadium anthems.

  • No. 7 Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball

The 1940s saw many players get their own gimmick songs. This one about Jackie Robinson is the first of such songs to make our list.

  • No. 6

Sure, it's not a song you sing along to. But, let's be honest. You know you've hit a home run in a game, real or pickup, and you've heard this song in your head. Hell, we bet Ryan Howard hears this song in his head when he's rounding second.

  • No. 5 Say Hey
  • Of all the gimmick songs, this one is the catchiest. Just like it's namesake.

  • No. 4 Joltin Joe DiMaggio

Joe DiMaggio made appearances in songs by Madonna, Simon and Garfunkel, Jennifer Lopez and John Fogerty, but this song by Les Brown and his Band of Renown is the best of the bunch.

  • No. 3 Centerfield

There should be a law that states this John Fogerty classic must be played when you wake up on Opening Day.

  • No. 2 The Star Spangled Banner

OK, so it's not really a baseball song. And that's why it's not No. 1. But really, is there anything more American than finding your seats at the ballpark and hearing someone pipe out a beautiful rendition of the national anthem?

  • No. 1 Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Sure, it was written by Jack Norworth, who had never been to a ballgame. But what kid doesn't know the words? And who doesn't love singing it?

Hey thanks, Brian. I just fixed it. I had so many problems with this last night. It took me about an hour and a half to do this post.

Hi Pat! Great list! I love the Dylan song, and LOVE the Fogerty (CCR?) Centerfield song. Haven't heard the version with that other guy. I'll try to listen to it later. In the meantime, I have to get ready for finals!!!! Ciao!

    Pat,

You left out the best song of all, "Rain Delay" by Philly band Marah. (Or at least they used to be from Philly.)

Point is, it's a great song that just happens to be introduced by Harry Kalas.

    Listen: http://hypem.com/track/799903/Marah+-+Rain+Delay

I used to like "The Closer" by Damon Carr... I used to listen to it all the time when I was a relief pitcher in college.

This is great! Very helpful for creating a playlist for our Little League team party.

You have to add 'Cheap Seats' by Alabama, 'Load Up the Bases' by Whiskey Falls,'The Greatest' by Kenny Rogers, 'Glory Days' by Bruce Springsteen, & 'The Boys are back in Town" by Thin Lizzy.
These are great for youth baseball.

    Hey Whyz,
I had a tough time leaving Cheap seats off the list. Very tough time. Personally I like "The Greatest." But since, I think there's four of us total who like that song it would have been tough to keep it there. Sadly, I've never heard "Load up the Bases." I'll give it a whirl this weekend if it's on YouTube.

A little known song by Geoff Moore and the Distance is one of my favorite Baseball songs Think you will like it

Great songs - did you mean to say North Carolina instead of South Carolina under the Dylan caption for the Catfish song. Catfish grew up in Hertford, NC. Thanks for sharing the songs!

Great list. I just stumbled into another song about the sport -- "Heart" from the musical "Damn Yankees." That song is probably the unofficial theme song of ball players all over the world.

nice list, good work, come on by my website if you're interested in more baseball songs, I'm going to be offering free downloads and lots of regular blogs.

    thanks, Ace

I think we're forgetting Boys of Summer by Don Henley and Go Cubs Go by Steve Goodman

I like your list. I posted a similar list (with a link back to yours) at Nightly Song: http://nightlysong.com/ Like the fact that you led off with the Dlan song. Have you heard Warren Zevon's "Bill Lee"?

I checked out your link. Nice list.

I love the lists!! Maybe you all can help me out-we are doing a baseball theme wedding and I need a good song to walk down the aisle to-any suggestions? Prior to me walking down lots of songs you all have listed will be playing. Can't wait to hear your ideas!

Hey, sorry to taking a while to respond. I wanted to think about this. Anything in the top 10 would be good. Another thought would be just the music to "Talking baseball" without the words.

    Hello

This is very funny . thank you for this. can i use this content in my website?
