Gary Sheffield got cut, Chipper signed, and Mike Gallego, yes Mike Gallego, is looking for his glove.

Oh an, how long before the boos rain in Philadelphia?

We start off with our daily dose of news from the region's teams,

  • A lot of news and stories are coming out of the World Champs' camp. Chan Ho Park has won the fifth starter's slot. Sam Donnellen ponders how long it will be until Phils fans get restless. And Philadelphia also said goodbye to Geoff Jenkins, he of the clutch double to open the seventh inning of Game Five Part II.
  • Orioles righty Hayden Penn got rocked. The Orioles trimmed their roster.
  • Dmitri Young has something to prove. The Nationals released Wily Mo Pena.
  • Jeff Karstens is hoping to make the Pirates final spot.

Here's a quick look around some other camps.

  • The Atlanta Journal Constitution's Jeff Schultz says the Braves have an institution now that Chipper Jones signed his deal. Funny, Jones has been around since 1994. John Smoltz Tom Glavine and Bobby Cox spent the late 80s, entire 90s and early 00s with the club. But we see what Schults is going for. One guy sticking with one team. Forever. Is kind of nice.

  • The Tigers released Gary Sheffield, who is just one home run shy of 500. The bet here says he ends up out west. But, it could be interesting to see if he doesn't get that last dinger because nobody wants a steroid-tainted malcontent around.

  • Alex Rodriguez expects to return on this date.

  • Sports Illustrated picks the Mets to win it all.

  • What is Blake DeWitt going to do?

And lastly, for a look at leaguewide issues and stories.

  • ESPN's Tim Kurkjian has a great story on defense. The tidbit about Mike Gallego's glove is fantastic.

  • The Baltimore Sun previews the AL East.
