There was something magical about being at Camden Yards on Saturday.
There was a feeling that hasn't been there in quite some time.
The fans are beginning to believe in the Orioles again.
And that made the game fun.
Watching Matt Wieters come to bat and feeling the expectation from the crowd was special. They weren't just hoping he would get a hit. And it wasn't that they expected him to either. They just knew it would be fun. A let's watch and see what happens type of thing.
But it's not just the rookie who was playing his second game - collecting his first career hit, a booming triple off the centerfield wall.
The fans believe in steady Brian Roberts.
They believe in ready-for-prime-time Nick Markakis, who just happens to be the best right fielder in baseball.
They're ready for Luuuuuuke Scott.
And they're in love with Adam Jones.
Even Aubrey Huff gets a ton of love.
Leaving the ballpark after another Orioles loss could have seemed deflating, but it wasn't even close to that.
The fans treated the game as if it were a setback. That it was OK to lose now, because this team truly is growing, and will be a force. Soon.
This isn't a smokescreen from the front office. Baltimore fans are smart. They see a ton of young talent.
They're willing to look at the Orioles players and, like the Ghostbusters said, declare, "We're ready to believe you."
