And The Southpaw doesn't lie
Leading Off
John Lackey has a 0.35 ERA in his last three starts, including a dominant performance Thursday against the Mariners.
Lackey is 10-7 for the Angels and primed for another strong playoff showing.
We've already discussed how good Lackey is.
But right now, he's the key to the Angels playoff hopes.
If he pitches like an ace, the Angels will throw any playoff opponent by the wayside.

Today in history
1912 -- Eddie Collins set a major league record with six stolen bases for the Philadelphia Athletics in a 9-7 win over the Detroit Tigers. Collins stole six more in a game on Sept. 2
1956 -- Frank Robinson of the Cincinnati Reds tied a rookie record for home runs in a season with his 38th homer of the year. The blow came off Steve Ridzik of the New York Giants and the Reds went on to an 11-5 victory.
1985 -- Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds became the career hits leader with his 4,192nd hit to break Ty Cobb's record. Rose lined a 2-1 pitch off San Diego pitcher Eric Show to left-center field for a single in the first inning. It was the 57th anniversary of Ty Cobb's last game in the majors.
The Closer
The Phillies have been here before. In 2002, the Phightins held a Sept. lead over the Florida Marlins only to watch it slip away.
Right now, Florida is on fire.
Sure, they played the Mets, but they've pulled within five of the division lead.
The Phils and Fish will have a four-game set later this month, so mark your calenders.
It will be during those days that the division will have been decided.
