Several media outlets are reporting Bobby Thomson has died.
Here is a Player Appreciation, The Southpaw just wrote about Thomson.
The man who hit "The Shot Heard Round The World" has several ties to York.
Thomson, The Staten Island Scott, spent the 1960 season with the Red Sox and Orioles. During that year, he was teammates with York native Vic Wertz in Boston and York Revolution part-owner Brooks Robinson in Baltimore.
Thomson also blasted three home runs off of Ken Raffensburger during his career.

I grew up in Watchung, NJ where Bobby Thompson raised his family. My parents were close friends with Bobby even though my dad was a Yankees fan and my mom was a Dodgers fan. I will always remember him as a gracious man. He got us seats for Old Timer games at Shea. He would sign autographs the entire game. He was recognized instantly even 25 years after the home run.
A very sad day for me. Not only was a I rabid Giants fan (I was even at the time and actually watched the game on my twelve-inch Dumont TV set!), but it inspired me to write my second novel, ONCE UPON A FASTBALL. Anyone who loves baseball would, I think, enjoy this novel, available at Amazon.com. I also have learned to admire Ralph Branca in terms of the way he has handled this gaffe his whole life. The greatest moment in sports history, in by humble opinion. --Bob Mitchell
Thanks for the comments, he gave the game many memorable moments.
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, Branca handled it well. Very much like Mitch Williams.
