Baseball is famous for its great nicknames. One source of a good nickname historically has been a player's collegiate experience. Back in the day, it wasn't as common for players to have college connections, so when they did, it became a calling card.
Consider some of the following:
Frankie Frisch, known as the Fordham Flash.
Eddie Collins had several nicknames, including "College Boy" and "Cocky."
