Well, that was unexpected.
We were supposed to get masterful pitching from Texas Rangers postseason ace Cliff Lee – who is so dominant he makes the cities of New York (evil) and Philadelphia (good) cry. He was going to do battle with little Timmy Lincecum, who pitches very, very well for the San Francisco Giants. So well, in fact that he’s won two-straight Cy Young Awards.
All that we saw last night was an 11-7 game.
That’s right.
Eighteen runs. Twenty-five hits. Eight doubles. One home run.
In the six-game National League Championship Series, the Phillies had 20 runs, 41 hits, 11 doubles and three home runs.
In the six-game American League Championship Series, the Yankees had 19 runs, 38 hits, 10 doubles and six home runs.
Now, what are we supposed to think about this series?
ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski says any air of inevitability is gone.
Tom Boswell says the Giants tugged on Superman’s cape.
Darren O’Day was teammates with Nick Adenhart, writes Bill Shaikin.
Tom Verducci says the Giants were very aggressive.
The misfits turned into the China Basin Bullies, writes Scott Olster.
Waiting til next year
Jim Wriggleman will be back in DC.
Placido Polanco will have surgery tomorrow.
Sandy Alderson is going to help baseball by helping the Mets.
The Yankees aren’t really going to let Kerry Wood walk away? Are they?
