Huskie football denied spot in NCAA playoffs

| | Comments (0)

Bloomsburg turned in an 8-3 mark for the season and finished sixth in the final Super Region One poll of the year, but the Huskies will not be making the trip to the NCAA DIvision II playoffs.

Why you ask? Because of the earned access rule.

For all who don't know, here's what that rule is:

  • The Huskies, 8-3, finished sixth in the poll, but were replaced in the tournament by Fayetteville (NC) State from the CIAA conference.
  • According to NCAA rules if a team finished in the top eight of the rankings, but its conference was not represented in the top six in the final poll, the seventh or eighth place team would replace the sixth place team.
  • In this case, Fayetteville, which finished seventh, will take the Huskies spot in the upcoming playoffs.
  • Fayetteville will play third seeded California (PA) on Saturday in an opening round game.
