After watching recent Dallastown grad Karley Marquet's athletic endeavors for several years, I wasn't completely surprised to find out that the JROTC cadet posted the highest score of all the female competitors at the Marine Youth Physical Fitness National Competition in San Diego.
Marquet, a field hockey and swimming all-star, is about as tough as they come. She not only was an outstanding breaststroker for YAIAA championship swim teams, as well as a terrific goalkeeper for the YAIAA field hockey champs.
On top of that she has also competed in triathlons and is now involved with MMA, something she told me at the 2010 District 3 Class AAA swim championships she planned to try.
With Marquet's efforts, combined with those of Samantha Buterbaugh, Savannah Patacsil, Gabrielle DeSanti, Grace Taylor and Chelsea Hoecke, the Dallastown JROTC squad earned the highest girls' combined score in the country.
