Library seeks teen advisors

Usually, libraries are a pretty lackluster place for teens to hang out. You rarely see a group of teens just playing games, eating or talking.

At Martin Memorial Library in downtown York, however, this type of situation happens at least once a month, and it’s all thanks to a group of teens know as the Teen Advisory Board (TAB).

This group is composed of about 20 teenagers who meet 7 to 8:30 p.m. every other Wednesday in the library’s community room. They plan events for students ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 18, and discuss how the library can help them with their events. They also write an e-zine called The Slant, which can be viewed by anyone online.

TAB is always looking for members. Any teen can join as long as they complete a few simple requirements. They must volunteer at the library for a least 10 hours a month, write one Slant article every month and attend all meetings.

Remember, anyone can volunteer at the library or write an article for The Slant at any time without being on the staff.

The Slant, more information on TAB and a list of upcoming events can be found at http://www.yorklibraries.org/teens/slant.htm.
