Name: Abbie Werner

Age: 16

School: Central York High School junior

What are you known for?

I am one of the only company ballet dancers in my school, and I get good grades.

How long have you been dancing?

Since I was 3, so 13 years total.

What companies have you danced for?

For Greater York Youth Ballet, and I currently dance for Pennsylvania Regional Ballet. I love it there! I feel that I am really developing as a dancer.

What are some of your normal yearly performances?

We do the Nutcracker a few weeks before Christmas, which is a lot of work! We also do spring and summer concerts, as well as Regional Dance America.

What do you consider to be your biggest dance accomplishment?

Probably when I was accepted to North Carolina Dance Theater Summer Intensive, which I attended this past summer. I got to train with professional dancers and people that directed at professional companies.

How often do you practice?

When we are not preparing for a performance, we usually have dance Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. When it’s the time of the year when we have a performance, we usually have dance for 40 to 50 hours a week!

Wow! Do you want to continue dancing after you graduate from high school?

Yes I do! I either want to go to a dance college or audition for a professional company.

What is one dance-related goal you would like to accomplish?

I really want to be a professional dancer, but I don’t know if that will happen. It’s really hard to make it in that field.
