Big Jake

Am I the cowboy type? Hardly.

But when my parents had to think of a name for me, they decided on Jake - after Jacob McCandles, John Wayne's character in the Western movie "Big Jake".

My family has moved several times in my life: from South Carolina (where I was born) to California, Georgia, and North Carolina. We came to York four years ago.

I'm home-schooled, and I have two younger brothers. I do my schoolwork in the midst of many silly annoyances (which I sometimes join in). Home-schooling isn't just staying in your pajamas and lying in bed reading - I try to learn everything I can, all the time. But I do lie in bed and read - and I usually change out of my pajamas.

I've been on the Teen Takeover staff since summer 2005, and I write lots and lots of rants. Here are two of my good ones: A new reason to get rid of the Pledge and America is not really a democracy.

My likes: My favorite books are Moby Dick and Jane Eyre. I don't have a favorite movie, but "The Hunt for Red October" is really good. I think "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is the best TV show ever, and my second favorite show is (ready) "Gilmore Girls"

Food: I will eat and enjoy almost any food, but I think broccoli-raisin salad is as good as ice cream.

Academic interests: Physics, math, and philosophy. I plan on majoring in physics, but I'm not sure where I'll go to college (Princeton, or Yale? or Johns Hopkins?)

Activities: Square dancing, running, and juggling.

My choice for President in 2008: Newt Gingrich. If he doesn't run, then anyone but Hillary.

Wow, I think I just learned more about you here Jake than I've collected during all the time you've been on staff. I'd love to read a diary about your experiences square dancing or juggling or participating in "silly annoyances." And I love the story behind your name!

Colbert makes the world go round. haha I saw the article about the ice cream, and I definitely plan on buying some. I don't know if it will be any good, but the fact that he is on the package makes me want to buy it. Victim of advertising? Guilty.
